Peanut Success

Peanut success

It was snowing all yesterday in rural Worcestershire, UK, so the peanut feeder was especially busy. This industrious blue tit was very pleased with its success.

I wonder if there's something in the shape that makes them like it more. We have one now with a similar shape to this one and frequently see a great tit on it. Previously we had a cylindrical one (mysteriously vanished) which hardly ever had a bird on it.

Gorgeous photo! I love watching the blue tits at my feeders. They're such perky little things.

This is such a good photo! It was only frosty here, but enough that our pond froze over. We put out some warm water in an old bird bath and it got faintly mobbed, although mostly by blackbirds who scared off the other birds.

That bluetit is doing well! We get lots of blue tits and great tits (and robins), and yesterday the sporadic invasion of long-tailed tits also happened. The peanut feeder tends to empty second, after the one that has a mixture of fat, seeds and worms, but there's a squirrel that has been doing its best to help out.

It didn't get quite that cold here, but I definitely heard about it from coworkers. We thought about digging out our old birdfeeders and buying some seed, but our garden is in the process of being turned into a wildflower meadow, so we didn't want to add extra seeds into the mix this year. Water, we've been doing, though.

Oh yes! Neither the great tits nor the nuthatches stand a chance against them.
