They're generally quite shy. We hear them and occasionally see them in the high canopy, but this is rare.

Woodpeckers are to look as if they are wearing a black and white tweed jacket. They may have white elsewhere and touches of red. Northern flickers break the tweed rule too, but not with GREEN.
