Went for a very windy morning walk today and saw some flowers, i cant remember what these are called if anyone knows please let me know! I also got to see some crocus' which was super nice cause when i see them i know its going to be spring.

haven't posted to this group yet! but i wanted to share some photos ive taken of my local flora over the years

the species are as listed: spotted touch me-not, common blackberry, goldenrod spp. unknown lilly, common pear (iirc). I hope this is a fine first post here.

Strelitzia reginae in bloom in a bedding of white seashells, with low-growing palms and (agave?) also visible in the flower bed, taken on 18 August 2023 at 15:43 US Eastern Daylight Savings Time:

The mature male specimen of Homo sapiens var. euroamericanus was a passerby and did not give his express consent, but the color of his T-shirt coincided so perfectly with the blue nectary petals of the flower that I decided to keep him; the measure I took to respect his privacy somehow completes the composition.)

Another fascinating flower spotted on today's walk: a Laurestine (Viburnum tinus)! (Thank you again to PlantNet for the identification. I'm hopeless with flower names.)

This was taken with the "macro" mode on my phone camera app! Normally I just use the "portrait" mode to focus in on a bloom, but the macro lets me get closer to tiny blossoms like these ones.

Fun fact from Wikipedia:

In south-east Britain Viburnum tinus is the principal host of the viburnum beetle (Pyrrhalta viburni), the country's "number one pest species" according to the Royal Horticultural Society.

Spotted this really pretty plant on my walk today! According to PlantNet it's a Darwin's Barberry.

From Wikipedia:

Berberis darwinii was discovered in South America in 1835 by Charles Darwin during the voyage of the Beagle. It was one of many named in honour of Darwin. The berries of this species are known to have been consumed by prehistoric native peoples in the Patagonian region over millennia.

It is a popular garden and hedging shrub in the British Isles. The Royal Horticultural Society has given the species its Award of Garden Merit. The edible fruit is very acidic.

Midsummer's Eve is the second most celebrated holiday here in Sweden and like Christmas a lot of the celebration centres around food and drink, but for Midsummer flowers are also a large part. Particularly wild flowers. May and June are the big months for wild flowers here and all the photos I posted below are just some of all the wild flowers I saw on my walk this morning.

I love spring, because garden centers open, and that means pollinators. I saw a butterfly going about in a greenhouse and finally tracked it down—taking a picture every couple of seconds, so I looked like a creep, I'm sure—on a hanging planter. I believe it's an American lady (Vanessa virginiensis), judging by the two eyespots and bit of pink.

A couple weeks ago we visited a garden in our area.

A very nice bumblebee on a sunflower.

A big bullfrog chilling in the shade.

Although I am very allergic to bug bites, I will follow neat bugs to try and get decent photos on my phone. Right now, the oregano is in bloom, attracting lots of pollinators (and unsavory types such as hornets and wasps).

Not far from where I live there's a dry, sunny slope and right now it's completely filled with bright orange Oriental Poppies (Papaver orientale). It's an old garden flower here in southern Sweden and occasionally it seems to thrive in the wild too.

These delicately veined little flowers grow out of the cracks in the brickwork at the canal's edge. They're a sure sign that spring is well underway.

There's a half-hidden place next to the canal towpath where a big patch of wild garlic grows every spring, in our little corner of rural Worcestershire (UK). We go down there to pick it and put it in our salads. Right now it's in flower, so Youngest and I took the macro lens down to capture it in bloom.
