It's been a long time since I've had Long-Tailed Tits (Aegithalos caudatus caudatus) visiting my feeders in winter but now they're suddenly here every day. It started Saturday with only two of them:

Every day they brought more and more friends and this morning there were five of them... )

Managed to take quite a nice photo of a Long-tailed Tit (Aegithalos caudatus) this morning.

Bullfinch and long-tailed tits
I am gleeful about this [slightly fuzzy] garden bird feeder photo, because it contains...a bullfinch! Look at its chunky beak and terracotta breast! I didn't think they typically used bird feeders, but this one has discovered the thistle seed feeder, which we put out for our regular visitors, the goldfinches.

In fact, I was so excited when I was trying to take these photos (in the pouring rain) that I almost failed to notice the three long-tailed tits feasting on the fat balls next to the bullfinch.

This is the third time we've seen the bullfinch, and I'm trying to stay vigilant so I can capture better photos of it when the weather is better and the brown garden waste bin isn't stood in the middle of the lawn, ha.
